Gordon Ramsay criticised for inappropriate behaviour towards Sofia Vergara in a 2010 interview

British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has come under fire after a 2010 interview with Columbian-American actress Sofia Vergara recently surfaced online.

During an interview with Jay Leno, Ramsay interrupts multiple times, flirts with Vergara and even taps her bottom. The footage of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has gone viral and has received over 47,000 retweets.

Shared by social influencer Jason Balanos, he captioned the video with: ‘Sofia Vergara didn’t deserve to be treated like this. Very, very uncomfortable.’

The video shows Vergara, one of the highest paid women in television, sitting between Ramsay and Leno.

In the video clip, Ramsay is shown mocking her accent, physically touching her and repeatedly talking over the actress.

He also makes several sexual innuendos. Referring to a just shown comedic skit, Vergara tells Leno: “I never scream like that in real life.”

To which Ramsay says as he strokes her wrist: “Only in the bedroom.”

Later on in the interview Vergara jokes that she can’t run.

Ramsay responds with: “Yes, you’ll knock yourself out.”

She later says in Spanish: “He doesn’t respect me!”

When Vergara tries to defend herself from Ramsay’s goadings he slaps her on the bottom. To which she replies: “No touching!”

Then when she tells Ramsay “This is my interview!” Ramsay squeezes himself next to her on her chair.

Leno then pats the Modern Family actress on the hand and says “Don’t you worry about him.”

Many viewers of the video have expressed their anger on Twitter. The video has received over 2,000 replies, with several accusing Ramsay of ‘objectifying’ the actress and widespread disappointment from fans of the chef.

In past interviews Vergara claims to have embraced the objectification of her looks and says she has made a comedic career around it.

“I’ve never understood why women get so offended,” she said.

“I just don’t believe in all that drama, which is why I’ve made a whole joke out of it. I am secure enough not to take it all that seriously, and I like to laugh at myself,” she told Net a Porter’s The Edit in 2016.
