The roof of the infamous Coronation Street knicker factory Underworld is set to collapse and claim the life of at least one major Corrie character in early 2019.

While it will look like an accident at first, the soap opera’s head producer Iain MacLeod revealed that the death will actually be a deliberate act by a new villain to hit the notoriously dangerous Street.

MacLeod became famous for creating major action stunts in Emmerdale when he served as the soap’s showrunner until he switched to Corrie this year. And it looks like his first Corrie stunt won’t disappoint fans.

“We’re knocking the factory down in March in a colossal big stunt. At first, it will appear to be an accident, but then it’ll be revealed to have been some kind of criminal enterprise that has caused the roof to fall in. Somebody will be dying in the collapse, but I’m not going to tell you who that is or who is responsible for pulling the roof down.”

Likely banking on this year’s popularity of serial killer Pat Phelan – who took the lives of four Corrie characters – bookies are already taking bets on which Corrie stalwart could find themselves crushed under the roof’s rubbles.

So far the top characters Paddy Power are predicting could be killed off are as follows:

Carla Connor 2/1

Leading the pack is Carla Connor who has experienced several near death experiences over the years, including in the very same factory. A spokesman for Paddy Power said: “There’s a new villain set for the cobbles, one who is set to cause destruction at the knicker factory. The most-likely victim of the new killer is Carla Connor, who has survived almost as many scrapes as the factory itself.”

Nick Tilsley 4/1

Carla’s ex-husband Nick Tilsley has also cheated death multiple times – including getting caught in sinking sand and suffering brain damage after being involved in a lorry crash. A series regular since 1981, albeit played by five different actors so far, could his time finally be up on the ITV soap?

Sally Metcalfe 6/1

Poor Sally is currently in prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Enraging Corrie fans and echoing the famous ‘Free Deirdre Barlow’ campaign of 1998, we can’t imagine she’ll languish in her cell for long. Could she be released only to then face a tragic fate soon after?

Sean Tully 8/1

Sean Tully has been a Corrie fan fave ever since he debuted on the soap back in 2004. But the usually happy-go-lucky character has been hit by seriously tough times this year. Penniless and friendless after getting kicked out by his once good friend Fiz, he was forced to live on the streets until his ex Billy took him in. Perhaps his luck will go from bad to worse come spring 2019?

Fiz Brown 8/1

Fiz of course has also had her fair share of heartache over the years. A foster child of Roy and his late wife Hayley Cropper, she went on to marry a sex offender and now has an on and off relationship with Tyrone Dobbs. A Corrie fixture since 2001, could her time on the Street be almost over?
