Lindsay Lohan under fire as she defends Harvey Weinstein

Lindsay Lohan has been criticised after defending film producer Harvey Weinstein against a slew of sexual harassment allegations.

The actress, who now lives in Dubai, lambasted his wife Georgina Chapman for not standing by him after the fashion designer announced she was leaving him.

Lohan spoke out after a string of high-profile actresses, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd made allegations of Weinstein's inappropriate behaviour towards them.

In an Instagram stories video published on Tuesday night - which has since been deleted - Lohan said: "I feel very bad for Harvey Weinstein right now. I don't think it's right what's going on.

"I think Georgina needs to take a stand and be there for her husband.

"He's never harmed me or did anything to me. We've done several movies together. I think everyone needs to stop. I think it's wrong. So, stand up."

Lohan's defence of Weinstein against a sea of criticism against him didn't go down well on social media.

The recent allegations follow an explosive report by the New York Times last week detailing decades of alleged abuse by Weinstein.

Weinstein has since been fired from his film firm The Weinstein Company, which has produced some of Hollywood's most critically-acclaimed movies.
