Ed Sheeran and U2 cancel St Louis concerts over security concerns

Updated

Ed Sheeran and U2 cancelled their concerts in St Louis, Missouri due to security concerns.

The British singer and Irish band were both due to perform over the weekend, but were worried there would not be enough police to deliver the usual security level required at music events.

Locals have been protesting after a white former police officer was acquitted of murdering a black man.

A statement from U2's concert promoter Live Nation said: "We have been informed by the St Louis police department that they are not in a position to provide the standard protection for our audience as would be expected for an event this size.

"We have also been informed that local crowd security personnel would not be at full capacity."
