Penelope Cruz is Donatella in sneak peek of Versace: American Crime Story

Producers have released photos of the new TV series about the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace.

The first look at the upcoming The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story was revealed in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine.

Penelope Cruz becomes a blonde bombshell as Donatella Versace, while Ricky Martin plays a ripped Antonio D'Amico - the long-term partner of the slain star.

Following on from 2016's critically-acclaimed The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, the upcoming series will focus on the 1997 murder of Versace.

Completing the cast is Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez as Versace and former Glee star Darren Criss as serial killer Andrew Cunanan.

The series was filmed in the former Versace mansion, now a hotel called The Villa, Casa Casuarina, where Versace was gunned down by Cunanan.
