New Tim Peake-inspired reality TV series to test wannabe astronauts

Updated:

Aspiring astronauts, listen up: you might get the chance to take part in a new reality show that will test your skills in all things galactic to see if you have what it takes to be the next Tim Peake.

According to The Sun, BBC Two is planning the survival-style programme which will put 12 wannabe space-travellers to the test over four weeks.

The inspiration for the space-based show - which sounds worlds away from reality shows such as The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing, quite literally - comes from Major Peake himself, and his successful mission earlier this year.

"The BBC have taken a bit of inspiration from Major Tim for their newest reality show commission," a source told the newspaper.

"Chiefs want to give members of the public the opportunity to follow in his footsteps.

"They think it will be great for viewers to see any Tom, Dick or Harry taking on some truly challenging trials to become an astronaut."

They added: "And, of course, it wouldn't be a reality TV show without some classic trials and tribulations that some of the contestants are sure to really struggle with."

The forthcoming show's name is set to be Toughest Job in the Universe, although that is not set in stone.

Show bosses are keen for 12 people to take part, and they must have a real longing to take part in a spacewalk while also being physically able.
