Michelle Keegan is backing 5 After Midnight to win X Factor

ITV Gala 2016 - London

X Factor group 5 After Midnight have described their "fast-track" rise to fame after going on the show as "crazy", as actress Michelle Keegan has revealed she is backing them to win.

Taking a rare night off from rehearsals to attend their first red carpet at the ITV Gala in central London on Thursday, they told the Press Association: "It's ridiculous. It's our first time here but I could already get used to it.

"We are going through a two-three year process in a couple of months. It's crazy, like super fast-track, which makes it intense but I wouldn't trade it for anything."

They continued: "Take it back a few months and we were three guys just sitting in our bedroom chilling and now we are walking the red carpet with some of the biggest names in television."

They were joined on the red carpet outside London's Palladium by their big fan, Michelle, who has already backed them to win.

The actress, who will star in ITV's Tina & Bobby next year, said she would also like to see Matt Terry be crowned competition champion.

She told the Press Association: "I'm a big sucker for reality TV, and I love X Factor - I'd rather stay in with a takeaway on a Saturday night and watch it than go out. I like 5 After Midnight, the boy band, and I like Matt Terry as well, he's really good."

She added that she felt "very privileged" to be involved in Tina & Bobby - recreating the famous romance between footballer Bobby Moore and Tina Dean - and described meeting Tina while making the show as "lovely."

She said that she was pleased to be at the event, and was looking forward to seeing everybody come together to "celebrate ITV".

But while Michelle, 29, made her X Factor vote clear, the other remaining contestants themselves said they had enjoyed being part of the show together.

Following Michelle on the red carpet with Emily Middlemas and Saara Aalto, Matt said: "It's amazing, I still cannot believe I'm in here. We are all a real X Factor family."

5 After Midnight added: "Moving into the X Factor house was difficult but there are great vibes."

The event invited stars and colleagues of the channel to celebrate this year's programming and look ahead to shows coming up in 2017.

ITV is also hosting The Voice UK, which features singer Sir Tom Jones as a judge.

Describing the programme as "unique," the 76-year-old said: "The blind auditions are always very exciting for me, because they are blind and you don't know - sometimes you think it's a woman and it's not - but it's all so exciting.

"It's hard to pick out just one memorable moment but it really is amazing how much talent there is about. It makes you think, how many more singers are there? But they keep on coming.

"The Voice to me is a unique show. I saw it in the States first, so when they asked me to do it I already thought it was a great idea, different from other talent shows.

"Contestants have already been through auditions so you're not there to make them look silly, they are all very good singers."
