Adam Thomas braves box of spiders in terrifying jungle task

Emmerdale actor Adam Thomas had to face his biggest phobia by rummaging through a box of spiders on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

The star, 28, suffers from arachnophobia and had hypnotherapy to help him combat his fear before entering the jungle camp.

In tonight's episode he had to tackle the Bushtucker Food Factory, which saw him digging through tanks of rotting vegetables, rats and scorpions to find stars, with each representing a meal for the campers.

But he was horrified when he discovered that one of the stars was hidden in a chest of drawers containing a box of spiders.

"Aww boys, you got me good... you got me good," he cried, as he worked up the courage and grabbed the star.

Adam said afterwards: "Them spiders. You knew what you're doing there. I think I did all right. As well as I could have done."

Presenters Ant and Dec suggested Adam had been picked for the challenge because the public know he is terrified of the creepy crawlies.

The actor laughed: "And I thought they loved me!"

The star had previously said one of the reasons he signed up for the ITV show was to conquer his extreme fear, as he had "never faced a spider head on".

His campmates could barely contain their pride after he revealed he had secured 11 out of a possible 12 stars.

Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt said: "I'm so chuffed for Adam. He is a bit scared for some stuff but he is a big strapping lad, You know what I mean. We all know.

"No one doubted him for a minute that he wasn't going to come back here with loads of stars."

Comedian Joel Dommett said he was as "proud of him as my bro".

He said: "I'm very proud of the old Northern chap especially the fact that there were spiders involved.

"He's like a little son of the group and it's just so great that he's done it."

There was even more to celebrate in the camp as the contestants surprised former England footballer Wayne Bridge with a birthday party for his son.

He broke down in tears as the campers, munching on cupcakes they had won for a task, sang Happy Birthday to his son Jayden.
