Rowan Atkinson starts filming first of two new Maigret films

Rowan Atkinson has begun filming the first of two new films in the Maigret series.

The Mr Bean star, 61, received mixed reviews when he made his debut as the French detective Jules Maigret earlier this year.

But ITV later confirmed it had commissioned two more single films featuring the pipe-smoking detective, with Rowan in the title role.

On Monday it announced that it had started filming Night At The Crossroads - the first of the two films - in Budapest.

The "complex tale of murder, deceit and greed in an isolated country community" is set in Paris in the 1950s.

Night at the Crossroads will be followed by Maigret in Montmartre.
