Jean-Christophe Novelli's tears over picture of new son after missing his birth

TV chef Jean-Christophe Novelli has revealed he missed the birth of his newborn son because he was taking his older boys to school, and that he wept when he first saw a picture of his baby.

The 55-year-old, who welcomed his third child with fiancee Michelle Kennedy, 40, in September, also revealed to Hello! magazine their son's name is Valentino Louis.

Jean-Christophe's daughter Christina, 30, from a previous relationship was by Michelle's side during the birth as it was an important day for his four-year-old son Jacques.

The father-of-four explained: "It was Jacques' first day at big school, which was a big deal for him. I was hoping to be there for the birth but Michelle insisted that I took the boys.

"I knew it was the best thing for everybody."

He added: "As soon as he was born at 9am Christina sent me a text with a picture. I cried. It was so magical.

"I have always wanted three sons and this is the perfect hat-trick. All the ingredients are here for a lovely recipe. It's wonderful to have children."

Jean-Christophe and his partner also have an eight-year-old son called Jean.

He explained that he will "be at the traditional retirement age" by the time his youngest attends secondary school.

He added: "But age is not important; I still feel young and I expect I will be running for my bus pass!"

Born in Arras in France, Jean-Christophe moved to the UK in 1983 and worked in several establishments, including one in Devon owned by the late celebrity chef Keith Floyd.
