Being up against Victoria is healthy competition, declares Poldark star

Poldark star Aidan Turner has insisted he has not watched rival drama Victoria and he is not bothered by the competition.

The two shows went head-to-head with a 9pm slot on Sunday night, with Turner's Cornish set period drama just beating Jenna Coleman's Victoria.

Speaking at the GQ Men of the Year Awards, Turner told the Press Association: "It's healthy competition.

"It's nice that there's another good show on Sunday night."

Asked what he thought of the ITV rival, he said: "I wasn't around to watch either show. I was otherwise engaged!"

Turner, who was crowned best TV Actor, arrived at the GQ Awards in Tate Modern after his first day filming the third series of BBC1 drama alongside co-stars Eleanor Tomlinson and Heida Reed.

Asked if he took his clothes off in the third season to show off his famous torso, Aidan, who has already sent viewers into a frenzy with a scene of topless mining in the second series currently on air, kept schtum.

But he said of filming so far: "I was on the horse galloping around so it might have looked a bit odd if I'd taken my clothes off."

And he had good news for the show's fans, saying that he was open to signing up for a fourth series, adding: "I'm going to tackle this and see how we get on."

But asked about whether he had received a pay rise, he replied: "I can't comment on that at all!"
