The first trailer for Strictly Come Dancing has dropped and it's out of this world

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing is upon us, and the first trailer has finally landed.

Airing right after the first episode of The Great British Bake Off, the promo clip was a unique take on all things intergalactic.

It kicked off with a mirror ball spaceship called Sparkles heading down to Earth by Strictly presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman from Planet Strictly to locate this year's celebrities.

It's clear there will be a few more trailers like this, as only four contestants - Lesley Jospeh, Tameka Empson, Louise Redknapp and Danny Mac - were seen in the advert, being successfully located and beamed up into outer space.

It's all very glamorous and typically timely, as it references Star Wars but adds its own twist: the Strictly's spaceship certainly resembles the Death Star.

The unique campaign even has its own special name - Mission Fabulous.

The rest of the contestants will have to wait their turn to be taken up to Planet Strictly before the new series kicks off with the launch show on September 3.

Eagle-eyed fans of Bake Off and Strictly took to Twitter to share their views on the promo effort, and the general consensus is that it's rather hilarious. Especially the bit where Birds Of A Feathers star Lesley checks out Hollyoaks hunk Danny...

Most people were loving it, and how the stars acted their parts...

However, there was some irritation among the ranks...

And some people were just thrilled that Bake Off and Strictly are going to be on at the same time, regardless of the ad campaign.
