The 'well-loved' character set to die in Coronation Street has been revealed ... and you really will need tissues
Maria Connor's beloved black Labrador Ozzy is set to die in scenes that will bring both the hairdresser and Coronation Street viewers to tears.
Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria, had teased fans that a "well-loved" character on the cobbles would be dying, leaving viewers puzzling over who it could be.
In a blog for OK! magazine, Samia wrote: "I've been recording some of the saddest scenes I've ever done in my 17 years at Corrie.
"You may need your tissues when they air. And we say a sad goodbye to a well-loved member of the cast."
With news that a huge explosion is set to rock Weatherfield later this year and leave lives hanging in the balance, fans wondered whether it could be Maria's new love interest, Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward.
But the unlucky cast member will apparently be Maria's dog, who has been her source of comfort through many tragedies.
A source told The Sun: "Ozzy has been by her side since 2007 when Maria bought him as a present for her husband, Liam.
"When Liam was killed in a hit-and-run, Ozzy was her main source of comfort.
"His absence couldn't come at a worse time, with heartache already on the horizon now she's tangled up in a love triangle with Aidan Connor and his girlfriend, Eva Price."
