GBBO's Dr Tamal Ray is coming back to TV with his own show - but it's not about baking

They might have been Great British Bake Off rivals, but our two most beloved contestants only have love for each other now they're forging their post-Mary Berry careers.

Dr Tamal Ray, who was one of the finalists on last year's show, has announced he'll be back on our TV screens with his own Channel 4 show and winner Nadiya Hussain was the first to congratulate him.

Instead of showing how he creates baking delights like that Chinese fishing village from last year's final, Tamal will be going back to his day job as a doctor.

The anaesthetist will be teaming up with Kate Quilton in a one-off pilot called Be Your Own Doctor, exploring ways to avoid illness and treat ourselves without having to pop down to the doctor's surgery.

If it does well (why wouldn't it? Hello, Tamal), fingers crossed it gets turned into a full series.

And he already has plenty of avid potential viewers, including Nadiya's husband and ex-contestant Mat.

Although one fan wondered whether Tamal could sign up for dating show The Bachelor instead.

And someone had the real question: When are Nadiya and Tamal getting their own show?

Nadiya has plenty of her own ventures to celebrate too. As well as her own BBC One show The Chronicles Of Nadiya, she is one of the new judges on Junior Bake Off.

The new show is one of a bunch of new pilots that Channel 4 have commissioned, including Tricks Of The Restaurant Trade and Secrets Of Our Favourite Foods.

If you can't wait for all of that, remember Great British Bake Off returns to our screens in just two weeks! Set your alarms for 8pm on August 24 and tune in to BBC One.
