Britney Spears celebrates new album Glory with a surprise bedroom performance for Jimmy Kimmel

Britney Spears is back - and she celebrated her new album announcement by dancing into US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel's bedroom and waking him up with a special performance.

The singer has promised "the beginning of a new era" when her album Glory drops on August 26.

The new era began in Jimmy's bedroom, where he was extremely confused to wake up to Britney in knee-high boots and fishnet stockings accompanied by a troupe of muscular male dancers.

Britney, 34, pranked Jimmy in the best way possible, sneaking into his room with her squad to give him a personal performance of her new single Make Me.

Poor Jimmy was left sleepy and confused while his wife Nancy hid around the corner giggling.

After a stunned silence, he managed to muster a "thanks for coming by" after the performance, which saw Britney writhing on his bed and two dancers straddle him in boxer shorts.

However, he must be getting pretty used to the middle-of-the-night interruptions: Rihanna pulled the same stunt on him for an April Fools' Day episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live earlier this year.

Fans can hear more of Make Me when Britney releases her ninth studio album on Apple Music.

The pop princess's last album, 2013´s Britney Jean, was an under-performer, but she will be hoping to make a comeback after a hugely successful run of shows in Las Vegas.
