Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin has died at the age of 27.
The actor was killed early on Sunday morning, his publicist confirmed.
According to TMZ, the star died in a "freak accident" after getting pinned between his car and a brick mailbox at his home.
Yelchin was found after concerned friends visited his home in San Fernando Valley, California, because he had failed to attend a rehearsal hours earlier.
Anton started out with roles in indie films and various television shows, before getting his break in films like the crime thriller Alpha Dog and the teenage comedy Charlie Bartlett.
His biggest role to date has been as Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek films -- the third of which, Star Trek Beyond comes out in July.
Anton, an only child, was born in Russia.
His parents were professional figure skaters who moved the family to the US when Anton was a baby.
His family have requested privacy at this time.
Fellow stars from the world of entertainment, as well as fans, have begun paying tribute to Yelchin on Twitter.
British comedian Matt Lucas wrote: "Dreadful news about Anton Yelchin. I thought he was an amazing actor."
