Prince Be from rap group PM Dawn has died in his sleep at the age of 46.
The rapper, real name Attrell Cordes, who was best known in the UK for his group's 1991 top three hit Set Adrift On Memory Bliss which sampled Spandau Ballet's True, died on Friday.
Bandmate and cousin Doc.G, real name Gregory Lewis Carr II, posted the news about Prince Be's death on the band's official Facebook page.
He said his relative will no longer suffer due to his diabetes and added: "My heart is at peace B-Cuz U suffered so long, tell grandma I said 'hi' and stay Blisstatic and strong. Love Doc.G."
PM Dawn were formed in 1988 by Prince Be and his brother Jarrett Cordes (DJ Minutemix). Their blend of hip hop, soul, pop and R&B was a notable contrast to the likes of N.W.A and Public Enemy.
Set Adrift On Memory Bliss topped the Billboard chart in the US and was followed by tracks including Looking Through Patient Eyes which reached number 11 in the UK in 1993. That same year, More Than Likely, a collaboration with Boy George, reached the top 40.
Prince Be is survived by his wife and his children.
