George and Amal Clooney greeted the Pope at the Vatican on Sunday night.
The actor was among several celebrities being recognised for their work promoting Pope Francis' educational foundation, Scholas Occurrentes.
Actors Richard Gere and Salma Hayek were also awarded medals at the ceremony for their support of the arts organisation which the Catholic Church leader set up to bring together children from different backgrounds.
George, who is one of its ambassadors, gave a speech at the ceremony in which he reportedly even slipped in a bit of Italian - well, he has had a home on Lake Garda since 2001.
He then had a meet-and-greet with the Pope accompanied by his wife, acclaimed human rights lawyer Amal, who looked stylish in a black Atelier Versace lace dress and silk hat.
Richard and Salma also got some one-on-one time with the Pope.
Italy holds a special place in the hearts of George and Amal as the couple married in the city of Venice in September 2014.
