Former rock hell-raiser Iggy Pop urges people not to use drugs
He was known for his hard partying as one of punk rock's pioneers but Iggy Pop insists his drug of choice nowadays is a glass of wine.
The 69-year-old spoke to reporters at Cannes Film Festival where he is promoting a documentary about his band, The Stooges.
Based on the musician's memories, Gimme Danger, from director Jim Jarmusch, features archive footage of a young Iggy Pop who was often on LSD.
But the rock star, who became famous for his wild on-stage antics, said he encouraged people to stay away from drugs.
"Everybody should just drop that s***," the Lust for Life singer said.
"I don't drug up any more. I don't do it. I have wine with dinner and that's about it."
Iggy said he believed marijuana was "OK for most people" but that he turned aggressive while using LCD.
"I was on acid in more than several of the clips in the movie when I was young," he said. "I would go from feeling very aggressive for five seconds and then break out laughing."
