Pixie Lott has defended her friend Sheridan Smith's decision to take up to a month off from her stage show.
Actress Sheridan - who revealed earlier this year that her dad is battling cancer - has pulled out of West End show Funny Girl for up to four weeks because of "stress and exhaustion".
Pixie is also starring on stage in London, as Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany's, and told The Sun that she understands Sheridan's decision.
"Sheridan must be going through a terrible time," she said. "Family is number one and doing a show is so full-on. She's an amazing actress.
"I didn't know whether I could keep performing for the next six weeks because playing Holly is such an emotional role."
Sheridan's understudy Natasha J Barnes is replacing the actress in the role of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
