Emily Blunt to star in Mary Poppins sequel while Emma Stone and Reese Witherspoon revamp other Disney classics


Emily Blunt will make sure a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down as she is set to play Mary Poppins in a sequel to the classic film.

Disney made a blockbuster announcement when it revealed it is currently developing an epic list of live action remakes.

Emily will step into Julie Andrews' shoes opposite Broadway supremo Lin-Manuel Miranda, helmed by Into The Woods director Rob Marshall.

Emma Stone will take on the title role in Cruella, about the baddie from 101 Dalmations, while Reese Witherspoon has signed on to star in a Tinker Bell project.

Fresh off the success of The Jungle Book, Disney has officially commissioned a sequel along with Angelina Jolie's return in Maleficent 2.

Tim Burton has signed up to direct a new version of Dumbo, while Selma director Ava DuVernay will helm A Wrinkle In Time, written by Frozen co-writer/director Jennifer Lee.

Lasse Hallstrom will direct The Nutcracker And The Four Realms, while Dwayne Johnson will head up the cast of Jungle Cruise.

Disney will next unveil a sequel to box office hit Alice In Wonderland, Alice Through The Looking Glass, which arrives in UK cinemas on May 27.

A live action Beauty And The Beast starring Emma Watson is due for release in 2017.
