Sir Lenny Henry said he was "devastated" as he lauded "killer stand-up" Victoria Wood.
The comedian passed away on Wednesday at the age of 62 after a short battle with cancer.
He said: "I am devastated - this is very, very sad news. Victoria will be sorely missed. Always funny, she worked incredibly hard. A killer stand-up and a fantastic songwriter. My condolences to all her family."
Absolutely Fabulous actress Jennifer Saunders and Miranda Hart both tweeted their shock at her death.
Actor Richard E Grant posted a personal photo of Wood, his friend of two decades, on his Twitter account.
Novelist JK Rowling posted a video of Wood performing Reincarnation Song, writing: "Watch and weep."
Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver, who starred with Wood in Dinnerladies, wrote the short message: "RIP Victoria. Taken far too soon."
Actress Minnie Driver wrote: "Oh no! Just waking up to news of Victoria Wood. Wood And Walters shaped my childhood, she was absolutely pure magic." She then shared a video of Wood's Let's Do It song.
