David Bowie receives posthumous Billboard Music Award nomination


David Bowie has been nominated for a posthumous Billboard Music Award for his last album Blackstar.

Bowie, who died on January 10, will compete against Coldplay's record A Head Full Of Dreams, as well as Mumford & Sons' Wilder Mind, Alabama Shakes' Sound & Colour and twenty one pilots' Blurryface for the top rock album prize at the ceremony in Las Vegas.

Singer The Weeknd leads the nominations for the awards with 16 nods.

The Oscar-nominated star, who scored wide acclaim for his single Earned It from Fifty Shades Of Grey, landed mentions in the categories for top artist, top male artist and top hot 100 song for both Can't Feel My Face and The Hills.

Justin Bieber follows as a finalist in 11 categories while rappers Fetty Wap and Drake both secured ten nominations.

Drake will compete against himself for the top rap album accolade for If You're Reading This It's Too Late and his collaboration with rapper Future on What A Time To Be Alive.

British superstar Adele and pop juggernaut Taylor Swift both received eight nods each, including top artist, top female artist, top Billboard 200 artist and top Billboard 200 album.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa and signer Charlie Puth both scored nominations in six categories. They both received five for their collaboration on See You Again, a tribute to the late actor Paul Walker in Fast and Furious 7.

Wiz Khalifa is also up for top rap artist and Puth is up for top new artist.

Boyband One Direction, who are currently on an extended hiatus, are nominated for the top duo/group award, as well as the top touring artist prize.

The Billboard Music Awards will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 22.
