Bindi Irwin has paid tribute to her late father, Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter. The 17-year-old took to Instagram on Sunday to post a heartwarming message, almost nine years to the day of his death, alongside a picture of her dad with a crocodile.
The anniversary of his passing also fell on the same weekend as Father's Day in Australia.
"Thinking about home today," she wrote. "Father's Day is today in Australia and everyone is celebrating at Australia Zoo. It's such a special time of year, I hope everyone who comes to the zoo today is able to enjoy it with our gorgeous animals.
"No matter where I am in the world, this day means such a lot to me. My heart forever lives @AustraliaZoo - just like Dad's always did."
Steve died tragically after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb in September 2006. As well as Bindi he left behind his wife of 14-years, Terri, and his son Robert who was just three at the time of the accident.
Bindi has just been recruited for the new series of Dancing With The Stars in Australia. She has been partnered with professional Derek Hough and will make her ballroom debut later this month.
Bindi told People Magazine: "This is going to be more terrifying than jumping on top of a crocodile. Crocodiles, they are very special because they are modern-day dinosaurs.
"But I've kind of worked with them my whole life, whereas I've never danced before in my life."
