A writer and comedian has asked her followers to design her a fake Emmys outfit.

Emily Heller, who writes for the HBO series Barry, was unable to showcase her outfit on the red carpet at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night because she “didn’t have time to walk the press line”, she told her Twitter followers.

Instead, she shared a photograph of herself in a one-colour green bodysuit in front of a backdrop that said “Emilys” instead of “Emmys”, and asked people to dress her themselves.

The post soon went viral, garnering over 11,000 likes at time of writing.

Twitter users responded with a number of hilarious takes on potential #TheEmilys looks.

Photoshopped looks ranged from a take on J.Lo’s famous green Versace dress to one made up of images of the Queen.

Others included a retro sofa fabric print and an avocado.

For those wondering what Heller did actually wear to the awards, she shared a picture of her full outfit with her Instagram followers later on.

Heller had a lot to follow up from after making a hilarious appearance on the Emmys red carpet last year.

The comedian carried a bag with the words “Getty Images” written on it, a testament to the world-leading images provider.

She’s not the first to poke fun at the red carpet by making their outfits about the comedy factor rather than fashion.

British comedy actor Daisy May Cooper has been giving Heller a run for the money for the past two years on the TV Baftas red carpet.

This year, May Cooper wore a bin bag dress that she told reporters cost her mum £5 to make. Last year she turned up in an asymmetric red dress fashioned from a Swindon football shirt.

Then there was the Fiji Water Girl, who photo-bombed almost every Golden Globes red carpet picture earlier this year.
