Dog's Hilarious Attempt at Asking Dad to Play Couldn't Be Any Sweeter

It can take a while to learn to understand canine body language, but dogs aren't always so subtle. You'll get to know your pup's routines and patterns, of course, but sometimes, there's no mistaking what your dog is looking for. If you don't believe me, take it from the owners of Pepper, the Catahoula Leopard Dog!

In a priceless April 16 TikTok video, the silly dog asks her dad to play in the most random way possible. It doesn't take a detective to figure out what she wants, but the hilarious way she interacts with her dad is just too much! As if that wasn't enough to put a smile on your face, Pepper's parents' uncontrollable laughter is the icing on the cake, too. Take a look!

LOL! I wonder what this dog could want... Pepper is being as obvious as she can with her bone-shaped squeaky toy, but I think her dad is laughing too hard to interrupt her one-pup symphony. I know I certainly would be!

Unsurprisingly, the video's viewers are equally as invested in the Catahoula Leopard Dog's award-winning performance. Commenter @oliviaevy sarcastically joked, "Dog body language is so subtle. You really have to know the dog personally to accurately decipher." No kidding! Pepper isn't giving her parents any hints at all...

Although repeatedly squeaking a dog toy in her dad's face is Pepper's favorite way to ask him to play, she's not the only one who does this. A few other commenters mentioned that their Catahoula dogs do the very same thing, though this behavior isn't a breed-specific thing. When my rescue poodle mix was younger, he was obsessed with squeaky toys! He'd squeak nonstop for minutes at a time at least once or twice a day. It was hilarious!

Why Dogs Love Squeaky Toys

It's no secret that dogs love toys that make noise,  but not everyone knows why this is. But as it turns out, it's all based on instinct!

Squeaky toys are entertaining for dogs to chew, paw, and chase because they remind them of hunting prey animals. And the sounds they make sound like prey, too! It may be grim for humans to think about, but for dogs, it's nothing but fun.

Because playtime often taps into a dog's hunting instinct, they may enjoy destroying their toys, too. While it looks like Pepper hasn't ripped the stuffing out of her bone yet, dog owners know it's only a matter of time before that toy has to be replaced by something new.

But do you know what will never get old? Pepper's hilarious way of asking her dad to play!
