Dog's Confusion Over Her New Backyard Is Full of Innocent Sweetness

Dogs don't always understand their surroundings, but no one would expect a pup to be baffled by the great outdoors. That's exactly what happened when one woman brought her puppy to their brand new backyard for the first time. The dog was so confused! But we're hopeful that she'll get the hang of it....one day.

Dottie's owner was cracking up when she realized the dog was more than a little confused by her surroundings.

Dottie's owner opened the door and...nothing. The Lab did absolutely nothing. Her response was positively underwhelming. In fact Dottie wouldn't even leave the door frame without a little prodding.

"Go! Go ahead!" her owner said from behind the camera. Nope, Dottie wasn't having it at all.

Dottie spent the entire time outside walking right beside her mama "like on leash walks," and looking truly perplexed by all the space.

"POV: You are finally able to give your dog a backyard and they don't know what to do," the video's onscreen caption reads.

The comments section was absolutely tickled by Dottie's confusion. "Uh mom…. I don’t have my leash on…." wrote one person. "She’s gonna LOVE it once she figures it out," someone else pointed out. "We need a video of her figuring it out and having dog zoomies!" one person begged.

Hilariously, the dog isn't alone in not understanding Mother Nature. "It’s been a few years now and my dog refuses to do any of the backyard things. If I go back in the house, so does he. I genuinely don’t get it," one commenter shared.

Dogs That Afraid to Go Outside

While Dottie isn't afraid of the outside per say, it's not so uncommon for dogs to not love the outdoors. Some dogs are even afraid of going outside, which can be really difficult if you need to take them for a walk.

There are lots of reasons why this could be the case. Puppies might be afraid to go outside if you've recently transitioned to a new home. If they haven't been leash trained, the outside might simply scare them.

Not socializing your dog is another reason why some dogs prefer the indoors. If your dog missed out on the critical socialization period during puppyhood, they may simply not enjoy being outside.

As mentioned before, leash training makes a huge difference. If you recently moved from a rural area to a more suburban or urban location with sidewalks, dogs might have a hard time with the crowds and noise around them.

As for Dottie, things are looking up. In the caption, her mama gave an update on the pup and her relationship to the backyard — "Don't worry," she wrote. "She ended up figuring it out."
