Have you ever received a "present" from your dog? Yeah, they aren't always as nice as it would seem. Dogs have been known to present all sorts of critters as gifts to their owners, but nothing could've prepared one dog dad  for the totally weird thing his dog nabbed while at the beach.

Thirty-year-old Jamie Davies was gobsmacked when his Spaniel Maple showed off her prized possession during their beach trip.

The dog dad was downright shrieking when he saw Maple coming in from the tide with a huge fish in her mouth. Truly it was massive. Maple was so proud! She was practically prancing as she ran onto the beach with the large fish dangling from her mouth.

"Maple!" her owner exclaimed. Yeah, it's hard to say that he was as tickled by Maple's find as she was. We have to imagine he was wondering how in the world he was going to get the fish out of her mouth.

"Maple showing off her catch of the day," he joked in the caption.

People in the comments section were honestly so impressed. "No but isn’t that like so difficult?" wondered one commenter. "One thing you would take with you if you was on a deserted island? MAPLE," another person chimed in. "Maple out here fishing, while mine is scared of puddles," someone else teased. "You said fetch, she said bet!" joked another commenter.

Spaniels Are Hunting Dogs

If you're most familiar with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel you might not realize that many Spaniel breeds are excellent hunters and swimmers. In fact, they were originally bred to help hunters find, flush, and fetch game. There are about 15 different spaniel-type breeds out there, many of whom are all about the outdoors.

Like the American Water Spaniel. As the name suggests, these dogs are upbeat, outdoorsy, and athletic. They love the water and hunting. American Water Spaniels are charmers — they have an eager to please demeanor. But don't be fooled, they also have a stubborn side too.

The Brittany is another Spaniel that is highly active. These dogs require a lot of exercise and were originally bred to help hunters find and retrieve game.

Historically, hunters have also loved the English Springer Spaniel. These dogs have a lot of energy, stamina, and are so smart.

We guess the lesson here is that if you're going outside with your Spaniel, be careful. There's a more than likely chance that you're going to end up going home with more than you bargained for.
