Dog Mom’s Attempt to Take Golden Retriever on Run Fails in the Cutest Way

If you're a runner, chances are you sometimes take your dog with you when you hit the trail or the road. It's a fun way to bond with your dog and for both of you to get some exercise. Steviedbarker decided to take her dog Sam on a run with her for the first time recently, but it didn't go as planned.

Stevie shared a video at the beginning of May showing us how it all went down. It starts with her stretching before the run while Sam watched on. But in the next scene it doesn't look like the run was going well! Watch on to see how Sam reacted.

I'm guessing that Sam won't be running with Stevie again anytime soon! Stevie even said in her caption that they had "a nice Evo ride to top it off" so it sounds like Sam didn't even want to walk. Commenters had a lot to say about the failed running attempt. I'm with MADI who said, "I’d react the same if you tried to take me on a run LOL!" More than 7 thousand people liked and agreed with @Stefvani's comment, "Running with my dog is the worst thing on earth!" @Holly shared, "Mine was mad at me for the rest of the day", and Stevie replied back, "Ya Sam and I didn’t talk for the rest of the day!"

The Stubborn Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are not really known for being stubborn like Huskies and Dachshunds are, but they can be stubborn when they want something. Golden Retrievers are highly intelligent dogs that like to think for themselves. Sam decided that he didn't want to run so he didn't, much like this Golden who refused to leave a Mexican food restaurant without chips and salsa. These dogs know what they want!

Goldens aren't stubborn because they're defiant but because of their independence. They were bred to chase and catch animals for hunters, and they did their jobs well...they didn't need their owners telling them what to do! Fetching allowed them to show their owner how strong and fast they were, further proving their independence.

Golden retrievers normally enjoy exercise and running; maybe Sam wasn't up to it or maybe Sam is an older dog that doesn't require as much exercise as he used to. Maybe Sam is like me and just doesn't like to run! Whatever the reason, Stevie said she's probably not going to be trying to run with Sam again.

There's nothing a Golden wants to do more than please their owners. Even though they're independent and prefer to think for themselves, with consistent positive reinforcement training and persistence, you can get your stubborn Golden to do what you expect. They want to make you happy!
