No matter how good your dog is the truth is that dogs will pretty much do anything to get what they want. It's not a bad thing! But when it comes to food, playtime, or attention, your dog will try their darnedest to get what they desire. That includes one Dachshund, who wasn't going to let belly run time end anytime soon.

Pity the teen who started this whole mess because he quickly realized that Shimmer wasn't going to back down.

In the video shared by @jamranchdoxies, it shows the boy leaning over giving the long haired Dachshund, Shimmer, some quick belly scratches. The teen then walked away, thinking that belly rub time was over. But they were wrong. Shimmer hung out in the spot waiting for the boy to come back to her.

Eventually she stopped waiting and just followed him to the other side of the room. She plopped herself right in front of him and rolled over. Belly rub time will end when Shimmer says so! This happened several more times as the teen walked back and forth around their kitchen. She really wasn't giving up.

Shimmer's persistence had people in the comments section cracking up. ”EXCUSE ME?? You’re not done mister” joked one person. "Maybe he didn’t see me," another person kidded as if reading Shimmer's mind. "Puppy Tax is real lol and it follows you," a third person chimed in. "If Shimmer requires someone to permanently pet her I submit myself as tribute," another commenter offered.

Why Dogs Love Belly Rubs

Speaking of the puppy tax, why is it that dogs love to get their bellies rubbed so much in the first place?

If you're dog is obsessed with you rubbing their belly, take it as a compliment. Dogs tend to only let people they really trust rub their bellies. And it's dogs that have itchy skin that need belly rubs the most. A dog's stomach is an area they can't really reach so you're actually doing them a huge favor by giving them some scratches on the tummy.

Belly rubs can also release endorphins and oxytocin in both dog and humans, both of which help strengthen are bond. What's more, dogs are pack animals. So this type of behavior falls in line with the "social grooming" practices they once experienced when they lived in packs in the wild. Pretty cool right?

So next time your dog is begging for a belly rub, remember that you're actually being helpful! And will surely make them love you just a little bit more.
