Clever Trick for Keeping Cat From Getting Off Balcony Is Brilliant

For the most part, cats are pretty low maintenance. But that doesn't mean they won't try and get into trouble. So we have to hand it to one cat dad, who came up with an absolutely brilliant solution to keep his cat from leaping off the balcony.

Poor Pawls. It seems like the temptation to chase the bids that perch near his apartment building was just too much.

His dad came up with a hilarious solution to keep him from jumping off the balcony to chase after them. The cat owner, who posts at @catnamedpawl on TikTok, used wiffle balls to make a vest that prevents Pawls from getting out — and it looks like it's working.

"Pawls acting like he's going to catch a bird, but then remembering he's wearing his ball vest and can't get off the balcony," the cat owner wrote in the video's onscreen caption.

Pawls looked like he was really realizing something — perhaps that his bird chasing days are behind him.

To add insult to injury, "The birds kept chirping at him from about 10 feet way," his dad wrote in the caption.

The wiffle ball vest was a huge hit with the comments section. "HIS BALL VEST. STOP. IM SCREAMING," wrote one person. "That’s brilliant! Only cats could create problems we need solutions like this to, that’s why I love them," another commenter teased. "Imagine if someone 10 times your size made you wear a vest so you couldn't ever go out the door," another person kidded.

How to Keep Your Cat From Chasing Birds

It's hard to believe that your sweet kitty could be a cold blooded killer, but when it comes to birds they do have that killer instinct. Chasing birds isn't ideal, but the real issue is that cats will often kill birds. Which is a big no-no.

It might seem obvious, but the easiest way to keep your cat from chasing (and possibly killing) birds is to keep them inside. A good tip is to transition your cats to being completely inside during the winter — they'll want to be inside anyway.

Another way to protect birds is to place a bell on your cat's neck. The bell will give birds notice that your cat is on its way before they can pounce.

Similarly, a Birdsbesafe collar can help reduce bird deaths. These collar sleeves come in bright colors that are visible to birds and will also give them warning.

Or you could go the wiffle ball route. Which seems to be working for Pawls.
