Channel 5 pull plastic surgery show episode following condemnation

Channel 5 officials have pulled an episode of their celebrity plastic surgery series after its subject Charlotte Crosby labelled it "immoral and insensitive".

Thursday's episode of Celebrities: What Happened to Your Face? featured medical professionals dissecting how the former Geordie Shore star's physical appearance had changed due to cosmetic procedures, and Charlotte issued a lengthy statement on Friday condemning the "immoral and insensitive" programme.

On Monday evening, representatives for Channel 5 apologised for "any upset caused" and removed the episode from their streaming service My5, with them insisting that the broadcaster and the show's producers, Crackit Productions, "take duty of care very seriously".

They continued: "While we acknowledge that the programme was Ofcom-compliant, we have taken on board Charlotte's feedback and removed the episode from our streaming platform My5."

The reality star, who is yet to comment on the episode's removal, has been candid about the cosmetic procedures she's had done. She gets regular lip fillers, has had Botox, and underwent nose surgery in 2016.

In her lengthy statement on Friday, Charlotte revealed her agent warned the production company in March last year that it would "detrimental" to her mental health but producers decided to run with the episode anyway, with Charlotte only finding it had been made when she saw the TV listings last week.

"Dealing with trolls is one thing - you ignore, you block. BUT where are we as a society, when the trolls are the mainstream TV channels? Will they now take responsibility for my dip in mental health and plummeted self-esteem? Do they take responsibility for the resulting press from the show, again discussing how 'shocking' my face is," she wrote.

"That hour could have been used to host a mental health documentary. That hour could have educated the public in the many issues & good causes which need publicity. That hour didn't need to go after a 31 year old woman for her appearance, choices and 'rubber lips'."
