What did you miss?

The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer resumed this evening on Channel 4.

It was EastEnders favourite Danny Dyer, comedians Leigh Francis and Rhod Gilbert, and BBC Radio 1 presenter Yinka Bokinni's turn to strut their stuff in the big white tent, with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith on hand to pass judgement as ever.

A dozen "highly decorated biscuit people" was the quartet's Signature challenge, and Gilbert, who himself has been battling stage four cancer since 2022, was quick to admit he'd never baked anything other than a potato.

It was no surprise, then, when he completely forgot to shape his gingerbread men (designed as a Paul Hollywood calendar) before placing the dough in the oven.

What, how and why?

"Oh no... Ooohhhh you idiot!" stressed Gilbert as he stared into the hot oven. "I didn't shape them into their shapes before I put them in. I mean, I've got no idea - let's leave them in."

A little later on, still huffing and puffing, the Welshman proceeded to take his unspecific creations out of the oven, telling the cameras: "Oh look at those, unmistakable gingerbread men they are aren't they... Can I cut them into shapes once they're cooked?"

Fortunately for him, the soft texture of his gingerbread allowed exactly that. "They're a lot better than I thought actually," he smiled after using the stencil cutter. "There's more than one way to make a biscuit!"

Before presenting the finished biscuits to Hollywood and Leith, he laughed: "I'm genuinely pleased".

What else happened in The Great Celebrity Bake Off?

The latest instalment of Celebrity Bake Off also saw the contestants rustling up lemon fondant fancies and their "biggest failure in cake form", while Mr Celebrity Juice, Francis, took home Star Baker.

Reflecting on his own cancer story, Gilbert shared: "For me it's quite emotional just to be here because the fact is I'm lucky to be here at all. I realised when I got cancer that I'd been plodding along through my life thinking other people get cancer. One in two of us is gonna get some form of cancer in our lifetime - that's pretty shocking and quite frightening really."

The Great British Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer airs on Channel 4.
