Car swerves off motorway and slams into vehicle that slid moments earlier

Footage has emerged of an incident from November 2019 where a motorist slid off the M5 and collided with another vehicle that had done the same thing moments earlier.

The clip shows the car, which was driving near Bristol, aquaplaning and slamming straight into the stationary vehicle on the side of the road.

The filmer told Newsflare: "The car swerved off the motorway in heavy rain, went up the grass verge and hit another car head-on that had done exactly same thing moments earlier. They missed a pedestrian with an umbrella by three feet."

Following a similar accident in December 2019 Highways England said it routinely carried out maintenance work on the motorway "to rectify any drainage issues".
