Pricing revealed for Vauxhall Grandland X Hybrid4

Vauxhall has revealed pricing for the upcoming Grandland X Hybrid4 — the firm’s first plug-in SUV.

Four trims are on offer for the SUV. Starting off the range is the £35,690 Business Edition Nav Premium variant, with SRi NAV and Elite Nav coming in respectively at £40,300 and £42,200. Sitting at the top of the pile is the £45,450 Ultimate Nav grade.

Coupling a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with a 13.2kWh battery pack, the Grandland X Hybrid4 produces 296bhp, allowing the car to hit 0-60mph in under seven seconds. More impressively, Vauxhall claims the car can return up to 176.5mpg while emitting 36g/km in CO2 — with 32 miles of electric-only driving possible on a full charge.

As standard, a 3.3kW on-board charger is fitted to the car though a higher-capacity 6.6kW version can be had optionally. Vauxhall says a 7.4kW wallbox will charge the battery fully in under two hours. The Hybrid4’s powertrain uses regenerative braking technology too, recouping energy otherwise wasted in braking to return capacity to the battery pack — with up to 10 per cent more electric range able to be eked out of the car.

Though its only current hybrid offering, it’s not the first time Vauxhall has given plug-in power a go. The Ampera hatchback was introduced in 2011 but failed to become a mainstay on the market.

The firm has committed to electrifying its entire catalogue by 2024, with its first all-electric vehicle coming in the form of the Corsa-e — order books for which are now open. EV variants of the Vivaro Life MPV and LCV, plus the successor to the Mokka X, are all said to be in the works.
