Sir Elton John's Aston Martin heading to auction

Updated:

A 1997 Aston Martin formerly owned by Sir Elton John is going under the hammer at the Silverstone Auctions Classic Car Sale, held at the annual Race Retro event.

Sir Elton's Aston was delivered new to the legendary musician in May 1997. It's a rare V8 Vantage V550, fitted with an even rarer six-speed manual gearbox. The auction listing notes that it's one of just 239 made worldwide, and presents in immaculate condition.

The V8 Vantage V550 was equipped with a 5.3-litre engine, producing a moniker-appropriate 550bhp and 550lb/ft (745Nm) of torque. That gave it truly epic performance for the time, with 0-60mph dispatched in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 191mph.

Elton's example is finished in black throughout, with paintwork and leather in the dark shade. The dashboard is polished walnut, and even includes an uprated audio system and period Motorola car phone.

It's covered just 8,663 miles from new, and the listing notes it still has 'that new car smell'. Despite the low mileage, maintenance hasn't been spared – it has a full 19 stamps in the service book and receipts for 'considerable expenditure' at Aston Martin specialist garages.

With an MOT valid until January 2019, the price this beautiful car is expected to reach is a minimum of £190,000 – with an upper estimate of £240,000. It will go on sale at the Race Retro Classic Car Sale on February 24.
