Sometimes it can feel as if temporary traffic lights take an age to change, especially if there's no traffic coming the other way. That could be the explanation for these rule-breaking drivers, who were captured on camera by a motorist in a parked car.
The lights, positioned by roadworks in Falkirk, Scotland, changed to red, but the camera caught a staggering nine vehicles flouting regulations and driving through them anyway. Following other traffic, a BMW X5, Ford Transit, Nissan Qashqai, Mini Countryman, BMW 4 Series, Citroen C2, Vauxhall Astra and Lexus IS all sailed through as if the signal were green.
Eventually, a VW Polo decided to stop at the lights, but another Transit was too impatient to wait and overtook, becoming the last car of nine to ignore the red signal.
Temporary traffic lights do carry the same penalties as permanently erected signals, with 'Wait here' signs taking the place of stoplines. That means a fixed penalty fine of £100 and three points, meaning a total of 27 points and £900 would have been handed out in just a few seconds.
