Watch police officer barrel roll to avoid collision with distracted driver

A dashcam video has caught the moment a police officer in America had to barrel roll to get out of the way of a distracted driver.

A police car was parked on the slip road off a dual carriageway while an officer was investigating a recent incident. As the policeman walks around the front of his vehicle to get inside, a distracted driver in a white saloon - believed to be a Nissan Altima - approaches from behind.

The driver does not notice the parked police car that has its flashing lights on until the last minute, when the driver slams on the brakes and swerves to avoid hitting the vehicle. The police officer then yells "woah" as he has to barrel roll out of the way of the vehicle. The officer appears to be unharmed after the roll.

The incident happened in Manchester, New Jersey. Manchester Police said the officer had been stopped to investigate reports of a struck deer.

The driver of the white saloon was stopped later and issued with a penalty notice.
