Frightening moment man tries to drive through a protest in California

This is the shocking moment a motorist attempted to drive through a crowd of protestors.

The incident happened in Brea, California where a protest was being held about immigration.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the demonstration was held by labour union Unite over fears that changes to immigration laws could result in members losing temporary protected immigration status.

The footage shows a man in a dark coloured Toyota attempting to drive through the crowd while blaring the horn.

People can be seen jumping on the car and smashing the bodywork and glass to try and stop the driver.

Damage is done to the vehicle and the male driver continues to drive through the crowd.

Eventually the police are on the scene and manage to stop the driver before speaking to him through the window. It quickly escalates into a chaotic scene with people wanting to attack the car and its driver.

According to the local police department the driver, 56-year old Daniel Wenzek of Brea, California, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
