A banned driver has been jailed for two and a half years after crashing his BMW M3 during a high-speed police chase.
Kamar Farooq, 30, of Aston Lane, Aston, Birmingham, was clocked doing 115mph in 30mph zones, and also drove on the wrong side of the road.
The pursuit took place around Birmingham and Solihull last September after police spotted him at the wheel, and ended after Farooq crashed the BMW into a traffic island and a car at a petrol station in Chester Road, Castle Bromwich.
He then jumped into the back seat of the car with two other men and claimed he was a passenger.
Farooq was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, and was also banned from driving for 10 years.
He was convicted of dangerous driving and driving while banned – although Farooq denied being behind the wheel.
However, according to the Birmingham Mail, West Midlands Police were able to use CCTV footage to identify Farooq as the driver, based on the clothes he was wearing.
After the case, PC Robert Lattimer, from Chelmsley Wood roads policing unit, said: "This was reckless driving by someone who should not have been behind the wheel.
"He tried to deny being the driver despite our investigations which secured such strong evidence against him.
"This was a high-performance vehicle and the outcome could have been much worse. He now faces a long time behind bars rather than behind the wheel of a car."
