Watch retired Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni discuss the Lamborghini Countach

Updated:

This interview with Valentino Balboni is a fascinating insight into the world of one of the most renowned test drivers in the world.

For more than 40 years Balboni was the head test driver for Lamborghini, starting in the early seventies.

Originally, however, he was a mechanic for the Italian automaker and did general jobs such as sweeping the floors and move the cars out front.

The video shows Balboni at the wheel of a 1986 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV, normally a special car in its own right, but this particular example was built for , Patrick Mimran, the CEO of Lamborghini at the time.

In the film, Balboni describes how he perceives a Lamborghini, saying: "The car talks to the driver. The driver has to understand the car, the language of the car. The car is a human being."

This brief history sums up a career that saw him start in the last ever production run of the Miura and finish in the Gallardo generation of cars.
