A couple were seriously injured after a car mounted a pavement and smashed into a lamppost, then ploughed into them on Sunday morning.
A Renault Clio was seen running a red light in Stockport, Greater Manchester, and driving on the opposite side of the road yesterday at 11:30am, witnesses have told the Manchester Evening News.
A Vauxhall Vectra was also seen running the light on the A6 Buxton Road, south of the town centre. The couple, both in their 50s, had been walking near Heaviley when they were hit by the Clio.
Police say both are in a serious condition in hospital, the man suffered arm, leg and head injuries while the woman suffered multiple injuries.
Witness Jamie Blackshaw , said: "Two cars came past, they were both on the wrong side of the road. The second car... flipped, it hit a lamppost and then hit a couple walking together.
"I was so shocked, I can't get it out of my head."
According to Greater Manchester Police, two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving and were in custody for questioning.
