Volvo’s new small XC40 SUV spotted testing ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show

Updated:

Video footage has been captured showing the Volvo XC40 prototype driving around Spain.

The heavily disguised SUV was spotted testing in the Granada area of Spain by two photographers.

Set to enter a highly competitive small premium SUV marketplace, it will rival the likes of BMW's X1, Audi's Q3 and Mercedes' GLA.

The car is to be released at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor show later this year between September 14 and September 24.

It is still distinguishable as a Volvo thanks to its 'Thor's hammer' style headlights and Volvo shape with a sloping rear-end.

It also has a similar style to its bigger siblings – the XC60 and XC90.

There will be a host of engines available including a 1.5-litre three-cylinder hybrid.

The car is expected to go on sale later in the year, although prices are yet to be announced.
