Audi has unveiled the R8 Spyder V10 Plus, which will join its supercar range along with the Coupé.
As the most powerful Audi engine ever to go into series production, the naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 has an output of 601bhp and 560Nm of torque, which means the supercar can sprint from 0 to 60mph in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 203mph.
This is made even more exhilarating by the powered folding roof, which can open or close within 20 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph. The hood is on a multimaterial Audi space frame made of aluminium and carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer.
All this kit means the Spyder V10 Plus is 69bhp more potent, 6mph faster and 25kg lighter than the standard Spyder.
The R8 Spyder V10 Plus will go on sale in Britain later in June, with an on-the-road starting price of £147,470. You certainly get an impressive amount of trim for your money, such as bucket seats, ceramic brakes and a variety of carbon components.
Drivers can choose from a selection of driving modes, such as Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and Individual. There's also a Performance mode, which can be programmed to consider weather conditions, including dry, wet and snowy.
Stephan Winkelmann, managing director of Audi Sport, said: 'The Audi R8 Spyder V10 Plus completes the R8 model line. The Spyder is now also available as a 601bhp top version in addition to the Coupé. It benefits from our many years of experience in motorsport and combines breath-taking dynamics with the emotion of an open-top sports car.'
