This is the truly horrific moment a car ploughed into a woman and child.
Shanta Jordan saw the car mounting the pavement and dived between it and a little boy, ultimately saving his life.
The incident happened in Bridgeport, Connecticut where CCTV cameras capturing the horrifying event as it unfolded.
The car can be seen hitting the pair at speed, narrowly missing another woman walking with her children, before bystanders rush to their aid.
Both miraculously survived the crash and are now recovering in hospital. Doctors feared that the child needed both his legs amputated, but in a delicate operation managed to save both limbs.
The driver was also taken to hospital and later arrested for reckless driving.
Speaking to ABC News, police chief A.J. Perez said: "If she did not step in, the child would be in direct contact with the motor vehicle against the wall, and most likely, he would have perished."
Jordan is to be commended for her bravery at a special ceremony at Bridgeport City Hall next week.
