Watch the frightening moment a pedestrian is mowed down by a speeding Mercedes

Shocking footage shows the moment a speeding Mercedes E-Class ploughs into a pedestrian.

The car was travelling at 30mph when it hit Jamie Topliss-Yates, 34, as he crossed a petrol station forecourt to pay for fuel.

CCTV footage shows Topliss-Yates being struck by the silver Mercedes and flying through the air after he hit his head on the windscreen.

The driver, Zaid Bhamji from Hull, got out of the vehicle and ran over to Topliss-Yates.

But instead of checking to see he was ok - or showing any concern or remorse - Bhanji blamed him for the accident, exclaiming: "Why did you just stand there, bruv?"

The incident happened at a BP fuel station in Hull, west Yorkshire on January 14.

Bhanji, a sales manager from Hull, appeared before court and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

He was handed a six-month prison sentence, was banned from driving for two years and ordered to carry out 260 hours of unpaid community service.

Topiss-Yates, a life model also from Hull, had a fractured pelvis after the incident, which has affected his walking and ability to work. He said: "I've not been able to see my kids as much, I've not been able to work, and I've not been able to drive.

"But the fracture in my pelvis has healed okay, and I'm lucky to be alive."
