Two original Mercedes-Benz 300SLs going under the hammer

Updated:

This pair of stunning classic Mercedes-Benz 300SLs is coming up for auction.

The rare 1955 300SL Gullwing is particularly special. The car is totally original, with even the rear bumper never being drilled for a license plate. And with just over 16,000 miles on the clock, it is surely one of the lowest mileage Gullwings on the road today.

What is so exceptional about this car however is that it was the only 300SL ever made in the dark green colour with tan leather interior.

The same goes for the beautiful 300SL roadster on offer. Very rare grey leather on the interior and the light blue, totally original paintwork make this car fairly unique.

As the owner explains in the video, his father bought both Mercedes and he inherited them during the 1960s. He has kept them since, never painted them and has kept them exactly as they were.

The Gullwing is expected to fetch between $1 million and $1.3 million (£779,000 and £1 million).

The Roadster is expected to fetch $800,000 to $1 million (£623,000 to £779,000).

The auction is being held by Gooding and Company and will take place at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California between August 18 and 19.
