Rare Porsche 911 Carrera RSR sells at auction for a staggering £1.7 million

This stunning 1993 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR has just sold at auction for a mind-blowing £1.7 million.

The 964-series Porsche 911 Carrera RSR is already an exceptionally rare and desirable classic, but this particular car takes that to a different league.

Just 51 RSRs were built, but not many will be in such incredible condition. With just 10km (6 miles) on the clock, this car is even still in its factory fitted cosmoline to protect the custom Polar Silver paintwork,.

This is also just one of two ever made with a full leather interior – this example being finished in bright guards red inside.

The 911 Carrera RSR came with a 3.8-litre version of Porsche's famous naturally aspirated flat-six engine. It produces around 375bhp and can achieve a 0-60mph time of just 3.7 seconds.

This particular model was ordered in 1993 and after being delivered was placed into a private collection where it sat for 25 years not being driven once.

Most RSRs came very stripped out, but the original owner of this example specified it with full Guards Red leather, competition seats with body-colour back panels to the seats, an instrument binnacle finished in grey leather and dark amethyst purple wheels with contrasting gold brake calipers.

The car was sold at Sotheby's auction at Villa Erba in Italy on May 27 and reached a record sum of £1.7 million - around €2.1 million - the most amount ever paid for a 964 RSR.
