Aston Martin honours Red Arrows with new special edition

Aston Martin's 'Q' bespoke operations division has created a special edition Vanquish S that honours the RAF's famous aerobatic team, the Red Arrows.

After a request from an Aston Martin dealer in Cambridge, the company set about building 10 examples of the Vanquish S Red Arrows Edition, which features design touches inspired by the team's famous red jets.

The car is finished in Eclat Red, to match the BAE Systems Hawk trainers flown by the team, while the white and blue trim accents are designed to reference the smoke trails. On the roof, the carbon is inlaid with a jagged pattern that mimics that of the ejector seat charges in the cockpit canopies of the aircraft.

Inside, the Red Arrows Edition gets Pinewood Green inserts in the upholstery, evoking the colour of the classic RAF flight suits and Martin Baker ejection seats, which are also reflected in the webbing seatbelts.

The headrests have been embroidered with the Arrows' famous 'Diamond Nine' formation, and there is an engine inspection plate signed by the pilot whose position in the squadron equates to the number of the car.

Finally, the rear cabin has been fitted in the '2+0' configuration, which sees the rear seats removed in favour of a parcel shelf that fits the two Red Arrows-themed racing helmets.

Under the skin, the Red Arrows Edition features the same 6.0-litre, 592bhp V12 as the standard Vanquish S, permitting a top speed of 201mph and a 3.3-second sprint from a standstill to 60mph.

Nine of the 10 Red Arrows Edition cars will go to customers at Aston Martin Cambridge, with the tenth being gifted to the RAF Benevolent fund.
