Mercedes-AMG has pulled the covers off its latest performance SUVs – the GLC 63 4Matic+ and the GLC 63 4Matic+ Coupe.
The hot new SUVs stand out in their segment thanks to the fact they both feature a biturbo V8 engine under the bonnet. Mercedes will offer both vehicles in regular and S-model guises.
In the regular model, the 4.0-litre engine develops a hefty 470bhp and 650Nm of torque. The S-model, on the other hand, produces 503bhp and 700Nm of torque thanks to additional boost pressure in its turbocharger.
The German firm has not yet revealed 0-60mph time, but both are limited to a top speed of 155mph.
The engine is paired with the AMG Speedshift MCT 9-speed transmission – which first appeared in the latest E 63 saloon – and sends power to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.
Motorists will be able to choose from four different driving modes thanks to Mercedes-AMG's Dynamic Select system. These include Comfort, Eco, Sport and Sport Plus in the standard cars, while S-models gain an additional Race mode.
As far as aesthetics go, the new SUVs feature the AMG Panamericana grille that appeared on the flagship AMG GT models. Both have been given wider wheel arches for a stauncher stance and those have been filled by large alloy wheels.
S models benefit from a Performance steering wheel, AMG badges in the front head restraints and an AMG instrument cluster with red highlights.
Both vehicles are expected to be on sale from September.
